Lleida Region

The Lleida region is located on the Pyrenean expanse of the Catalan region. The region is endowed with lush prolific landscapes on the Serge river vale. Lleida also serves as the hub of a state that has an identical name as this region itself, i.e. the Lleida province.

The nucleus of the Lleida region has an exceptional geographical location like no other. At the hub of the city stands a magnificent knoll that offers a scenic view of the vast horizons of the countryside below. It also hosts the remains of the La Zuda castle which was the residence of Aragonese rulers in the past as well as the old Basililica which showcases the proficiency of ancient Spanish contractors in architectural designs. Despite the town having grown significantly over the years to become a modern metropolis, the local authorities show keen interest in preserving historic sites and artefacts as they are reminiscent of the prehistoric past of the Lleida region.

The region to the north of Lleida is excellent for outdoor recreational activity such as hiking in the Pyrenees and skiing. The height of Pyrenees presents you with the opportunity to experience the scenic horizons of the landscape below whose sight is enthralling. Gothic architecture is archetypal to this region in Spain and Lleida takes pride in masterpieces such as the Roman convents of Erill la Vall, Boi and Taull.

The La Seu D’Urgell town found to the north of the Lleida expanse is of great significance with respect to the historic past of the region. It lies on the convergence of the Serge and Valira rivers. The most prominent attraction in this town is a magnificent Romanesque cathedral building which is traceable to the late 11th century.

Religion is seemingly a nominal part of the lives of the residents of Lleida as the La Sagrada Familia and the Saint Miguel convents have stood the test of time since the 14th century and still attract sightseers who marvel at them. At the Casa de la Ciudad as well as the Museum de Diocesan, history lives on for a reason - to stimulate the hearts and minds of those who want to know about the events of yester years and centuries.

Other places worth mentioning in the Lleida region are the museum in Cervera which showcases ancient Roman and Iberian artefacts and art work. The Borjes Blanques region in Lleida is endowed with prolific soils which favour the blooming of lush fruit yards whose products are processed into excellent juices and wines that put Spain on the map in terms of producers of quality juices and wines. Tour companies offer tours to these gardens where tourists get to indulge in cellar tastings and can experience the exceptional Spanish wines and juices.
