The Coast of Granada
The seaside landscape of Granada is found stuck between Costa de Almeria and Costa del Sol of Malaga on the Mediterranean seafront in close proximity to the Sierra Nevada mountain range which takes pride in the uppermost mountain tops on the Iberian Peninsula. The strategic location brings forth subtropical climatic conditions which bring warm bubbly weather throughout the year. The Sierra Nevada mountain range on the other hand saves the tropical coast from harm that comes with the north bound air currents. With a total of twenty six outstanding beaches, the coastline is unquestionably bound to satiate the needs of tourists of all dispositions in the most fulfilling manner.
Seaside fun
Along the Granada coastline are six tourist hubs namely Almunecar, Castell de Ferro, La Herradura, La Rabita, Motril and Salobrena. These create an excellent combination of highlights where tourists are presented with a variety of activities to engage in. Lovers of Water sports are presented with an ultimate opportunity to indulge in fishing, scuba diving, surfing and waterskiing among other activities on and under the vast pristine blues of the Mediterranean while the adventurous are treated to unbeatable experiences hiking or alpine skiing in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountain range. The rather reserved members are not left out either. Adjacent to the coastline are resort establishments that offer sports such as seaside golfing, squash, tennis and horse ridding.
History of the Granada coastline
The town of Almunecar is located on the western most expanse of the Granada coastline. Thirty centuries ago, the ocean-going Phoenicians came across the tropical bliss of Almunecar and established an Arab empire complete with a castle there. In the present day, the citadel has since been transformed into a garden of remembrance set up on the ruins of ancient Roman buttresses looking out over the town of Almunecar. The town also hosts ancient town walls, archways and water storage tanks used in the medieval era. Atop the Mirador de la Cruz, you will be treated to an exceptional aerial view of the seaside bays as well as the adjacent scenic landscape.
Ancient architecture along the Granada shoreline
Down the length of the coastline of Granada you will come across a number of architectural works of geniuses dating back to the ancient medieval period. Worth mentioning are the white washed quarters as well as convents and castles dating back to the prehistoric era. Adjacent to the coastline are a number of meandering boulevards whose ambience is characterised by a colouration typical to geraniums which paints a picture of the town for the duration of the Arab age.
