Jerez is a municipality of Cadiz in the Spanish region of Andulasia. It sits at a middle spot between the mountains and the sea which gives it the best of both worlds. Jerez is a mere 15 kilometer distance from the beautiful beaches of Costa de la Luz. It is also considered to be the largest city in Andulasia. Jerez has plenty of cattle ranches, wineries that produce the wine that the city is known for as well as horse breeding ranches. It is also the venue of the Grand Prix for motorcycles, a yearly event that is much-awaited by motorcycle fanatics.

The wines produced by the local wineries of Jerez are known all over the world for their excellent quality. Jerez has been producing wines for more than 3000 years ago and began exporting them to Rome 2000 years ago. The production of wines is very much a part of the history of Jerez. It is in fact where the Xeres-Jerez sherry originated. The wine from Jerez gained popularity in England during the 12th century where it was called sherry.

Sherry was derived from the Moorish name of Jerez which was Sherish. Until today, this wine is still called by the name sherry. At present, the wineries and wine cellars of Jerez have become tourist attractions. Some of them even offer tours where tourists can learn about the wine-making process and the history of wine-making in Jerez. Each tour also has a wine-tasting portion where guests can sample the different kinds of wine produced in Jerez.

Aside from the wines, Jerez is also known all over the world for its horse-breeding ranches. It is where the world-renowned horse breed originally bred by the Carthusian monks originated. In the latter years, the breeding of the horses have been turned over to the military. To see these famous horses, the best time to visit Jerez would be in May when the Horse Fair is held annually. It is the biggest and grandest fair in Andalusia. While you are there, you can also make a trip to the Palacio Duque de Abrantes where you get to see the Royal Andulasian Riding School as well as witness a dressage demonstration.

In addition to wines and horses, Jerez is also known for being the origin of the famous flamenco. Tourists can see excellent flamenco performances at the many tablaos or flamenco clubs all over Jerez. Great flamenco dances are also showcased during the Festival Flamenco Jerez.
